Practicing Self Care And Healing At Home

Self care is very vital and integral for women old and young alike. Being able to provide care for one self

on a consistent basis requires time, money, resources, planning and purpose. Really a combination of all

of these things. Only then can a woman find balance and peace cultivated by her own hands.

After retiring from Teaching in 2014, due to
illness, I was on the mend physically.  During
that time I also went through a brief period of
depression and anxiety about what direction my
life needed to move in. Being a Teacher was
more than just a job to me.  It brought me joy,
but also added purpose and meaning for me in
the form of being able to assist the inner city
families with educational resources/support of
my students. Now I had the task of advocating
for and working along with a health care team,
prioritizing my needs and goals to level up.
Time for self care became a more extended part
of my daily schedule. I discovered that a combo
of leisure and planned care activities through
out the day is essential for me and very
therapeutic. Having these sessions helps to
increase self awareness, independence, while
learning through painful experiences and
rebuilding the fragile part of me carefully.
